Regensburg Spring Dult

Last weekend we went to the spring fest in Regensburg.  The kids now get excited to go knowing there will be rides and games.

As soon as we went in the beer tent Cormac started looking for the guy that does the harness for people to climb the pole. Cormac was the one to run up and try this in the fall and he was so excited to try again.  He did a great job but, poor guy, his arms are still to short for him to reach the string to ring the bell.  This time the beer tent was full and he had the whole tent cheering for him.  I think by the time this comes again in the fall he will be able to get it.

End of the season

Last week was the end of the spring sports season.  All the boys had a good time on their teams this year.
Cormac with his soccer medal for the season.
Cormac's coaches gave the kids a pizza party after the last games.

Gus with his team.  Some days they called themselves the "Grapes" and some days they called themselves the "Purple Minions."
He also got a medal for the season.

Cadel wasn't able to make it to his final practice last week since he was sick but we are going to go by the sports office and pick up his medal.  Now we have plenty of time to get ready for fall sports in August.  Maggie will finally be old enough to play by then and she is super excited!

German-American Volksfest

Last weekend was the annual German American Volksfest on post.  We went on Saturday afternoon.  There were several different German military vehicles on display as well as a few US army vehicles.  The kids were more than happy to climb around them all but they loved the tanks.

After looking at all of the military stuff we walked over the the fest and the kids rode rides and played a few games.  We also stopped in the tent for a beer and a snack before we left.

Volksmarch

Every spring the kids' elementary school has a Volksmarch ("people walk", usually on a scenic path or trail through the forest).  All of the students, teachers and families walk from the school on post through the forest to the sportsplatz in Hohenfels.  Everyone stops there for a picnic lunch before heading back.

We were lucky that the weather was sunny and somewhat warm last Friday on the big Volksmarch day.  Cadel and I walked with Cormac and his kindergarten class (they only do a 5km walk).  Pat took Maggie in the backpack to walk with Gus' class (they do a 10 km walk).  We met up with them at the sportplatz for lunch before we headed back together.

The kids all did pretty well.  Gus loved it.  Maggie had fun (although she didn't have much work to do but sit and enjoy the scenery).  Cormac and Cadel started out strong but both were exhausted at the end.

Kinderfest

April is "Month of the Military Child" and in honor of that there was a Kinderfest on post last Saturday.  Various organizations on post had activities for the kids.  It was pretty small but we stopped by with the kids.  They loved climbing on the helicopter and Humvee.

Gus and Cormac also tried out archery.

Cadel wanted to know why the gun wasn't loaded because he wanted to shoot "pews".
