According to Gus

Here is Gus, opining on some important matter (probably which flavor of popsicle is best).

He reminds me a little bit of a politician here, or perhaps a dictator...
A few more bits of Gus wisdom:

When Gus wants your full attention he tells you to "put your face right here" (next to his) so he can talk to you without distraction.

Whenever we are playing in his playroom he always closes the door that leads to the long hallway down to our bedroom because "there is a dinosaur coming".

One morning Pat was getting ready to leave for work.  Gus told him to stay in the playroom because Gus had work to do.  Gus told Pat, "my job is to play."

At the zoo (again)

More from last week's trip to the zoo.  The zoo has a barn with some farm animals.  Gus has always loved this one because you get to see the animals up close.  Cormac is really starting to enjoy this one too.
 Checking out the goats.

Checking out the chicken coop.

In the Birdhouse.  There is a little lookout for kids in a fake tree.  Gus just found it this last trip.

Listening and watching some of the birds. As always, Gus can be heard in the background.

The magical world of Dr. Seuss

Gus has always loved books, any kind of book.  When he was a wee little boy he loved (and still does) the Dr. Seuss board books such as Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?, There's A Wocket In My Pocket, and The Foot Book.  A couple of weeks ago I read the full version of Green Eggs and Ham to him and he fell in love.  He can now quote parts of the book.  Gus' absolute favorite part is when the man tries the green eggs and ham and decides that he likes them.  He now asks Pat to read "Sam-I-Am" every night at bedtime.  He also likes Fox in Sox and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.  Pat is now trying to read one new Seuss book at night, in addition to "Sam-I-Am" to break up the repetition a bit and perhaps find new favorites.  I am so happy that Gus is enjoying these books so much.  Dr. Seuss is so timeless and fun, so here's to many, many more years with "Sam-I-Am"!

Spin Cycle Redux

Cormac, like his older brother, has developed a fascination with the washing machine.  Lucky for him (or perhaps me) this one is bigger and faster.
I documented Gus' love of laundry here.  I am happy that the trend continues.  Now if only I could get them to wash, fold and put away their own laundry...(on a positive note Gus already puts his clothes in the laundry basket when asked--maybe Uncle David can get some lessons when he visits on Labor Day weekend)

Baby, you can drive my car

Cormac loves to drive cars around.  Cormac has been watching Gus do this since Cormac was born so he has all of the basics down.  Right now he likes cars that make noise or light up.

Happy Birthday Max!

We celebrated Max's 8th birthday last week.  Since he was adopted from the OKC shelter we don't know his exact birthday so we just randomly picked the first week in August.  We even ordered a dog cake from a local pet boutique for him this year.  Gus is really into birthdays--anyone's--so we sang and I also made a cake for us to eat too (Gus thinks everyone gets cake on a birthday and I agree!).
The dog cake--we picked peanut butter for Max.
Singing "Happy Birthday" to Max.
Max loved his cake. Happy Birthday old man!

One of many trips to the zoo

Gus loves our regular trips to the zoo.  His favorite right now is the Aquarium with all of the different fish and sea creatures (he can say anemone!) and also the koi pond where you can buy a handful of fish food for a quarter to feed the fish.
He also loves the Galapagos tortoises (we have 4 at our zoo).

Cormac is really starting to enjoy visiting the zoo as well.

These pictures were taken last week and it was the first time he was pulling up and sitting up in his stroller to see everything going on.  I really think he wishes he could get out and enjoy everything the way Gus does.  He also really enjoys seeing all of the different fish in the Aquarium.

31 Flavors

During the summer Baskin-Robbins still offers sundaes in the mini baseball helmets.  I was so excited when Pat told me this because I remember getting these when I was little.  We took Gus to get his first "ice cream in a hat" last Saturday.  Pat and I were way more excited about the mini helmet.  Gus only had eyes for the ice cream; however, the helmet is now resting proudly in his room.

Godzilla

We have a demolition baby in the house.  He usually strikes while Gus is right in the middle of playing something, but he often sneaks off on his own to take down whatever he finds.  There is no job too big or small for this steamroller.  Gus now says that Cormac "Godzilla's" his stuff.

This is part of the playroom (relatively picked up) before Cormac strikes.

Baby in action. A small sampling of his favorite game. He accomplished this in about 30 seconds.
