Cormac the pragmatic

This week we went to "Meet Your Teacher" at Gus' new preschool.  Here is the conversation between Gus, Cormac, and Gus' teacher, Ms. Laura:

Ms. Laura:  Cormac is three, right?
Gus: No, Cormac is only two.
Ms. Laura:  Cormac, when do you turn three?
Cormac:  On my birthday.

Cheyenne Mountain State Park

For our most recent camping adventure we only had to go down the street to Cheyenne Mountain State Park.  It is one of Colorado's newest state parks and it is so nice.  It was a short trip but we all had a wonderful time.  All three boys loved playing in the rocks.

All of the campsites have prints like these. Gus came over to us and told us there were snipe prints at our spot.

Arches National Park

Our stop in Moab, Utah, allowed us to visit Arches National Park. It is awesome! The salt bed in Utah has, over millions of years, created these amazing sandstone formations and arches.

The new addition

We bought an Airstream travel trailer and went to pick it up in Boise, Idaho, last weekend. We have been thinking of doing this for awhile. We thought now was the perfect time so we can enjoy all of the things Colorado and the surrounding areas have to offer. We took a long weekend and stayed the first night in Three Island Crossing State Park in Idaho. Then we drove down to Moab, Utah, and stayed for two nights. It was a lot of traveling for a few days but we got a feel for how fun it will be to travel and camp.

The Snake River Valley in Idaho.

Having some lunch inside the Airstream. Now we no longer have to stop and eat fast food. We can park, go in the back and fix lunch. (Don't clue Gus in that it means no more McDonald's stops!).

At the RV park in Moab, Utah.

Seven Falls and the Manitou Cliff Dwellings

We took the boys to a couple more local attractions Sunday. First we went to Seven Falls, a well-known and very pretty waterfall in one of the canyons around Colorado Springs. It is called Seven Falls for the seven different turns the waterfall makes on the way down.
In the tunnel to take the elevator up for a view of the falls.

The boys all took the 224 steps up to the top of the falls while I stayed at the bottom and took some pictures. They had a great time at the top. There were real hiking trails for Gus instead of sidewalks.
Then we went to the Manitou Cliff Dwellings. These are cliff houses built by the Anasazi, an ancient people that many Native Americans descended from. These houses were brought to their current location at the turn of the 20th century and you can walk throughout what remains of the houses. It was pretty cool and Gus and Cormac had a great time exploring.

The world according to Gus

Part of our lunch conversation yesterday:

Gus:  It must be hard to be a girl.
Me:  Why do you think so?
Gus: Because girls have to do a lot of vacuuming.
